KL sits near the equator and doesn't have a true dry season — expect 27–34°C and humidity year-round, with afternoon thunderstorms common most months. June through August are statistically the driest months and the closest thing to a 'best' window, though the difference from other months is modest. Avoid planning entirely around weather here; instead plan around Ramadan (dates shift yearly) for incredible night markets, or avoid it if you want full daytime restaurant availability in Muslim-owned establishments.

The LRT, MRT, and Monorail networks cover the Golden Triangle, KLCC, and Chinatown well and are cheap, air-conditioned, and easy to navigate. Grab is the default for point-to-point rides and works better than street taxis, which are inconsistent on using meters. The KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus is a reasonable option for a first orientation day. Walking works within Bukit Bintang and KLCC but the heat and humidity make longer cross-city walks unpleasant — use the rail network instead.

KL's hawker food scene is the city's single best argument for a visit — Malay, Chinese, and Indian traditions sit stall-by-stall, often at the same food court. Nasi lemak (coconut rice with sambal), char kway teow, and banana leaf rice are the essential orders, each best sourced from a different community's stalls. Jalan Alor is the tourist-friendly night market option; Kampung Baru and the markets around Brickfields are less polished but arguably better value and flavour.

Batu Caves, 40 minutes north, is the essential half-day trip — a limestone cave complex with a 42.7-metre golden Murugan statue and 272 steps up through resident macaques. Genting Highlands offers a cooler mountain-top casino resort and theme park, reached by cable car. Putrajaya, Malaysia's purpose-built administrative capital, is an easy contrast in planned-city architecture. The Batu Caves visit pairs well with a morning start to beat both the heat and the tour-bus crowds.
